What kinds of digital files can I sell?
Almost any type — PDFs, eBooks, music, videos, images, ZIPs, fonts, design files, software installers, 3D assets, and more. There are no file-type restrictions; storage caps depend on plan (1 GB Free / 5 GB Essential / 50 GB Professional / 500 GB Plus).
How do customers receive their downloads?
Two ways, automatically and at the same time: a download link appears on the post-purchase Thank You page, and a secure download email is sent. Customers can re-download from their Shopify customer account at any time.
Can I limit how many times a customer downloads a file?
Yes. On the Essential, Professional, and Plus plans, set a maximum number of downloads for each file and override it on any order. On Professional and Plus you can also limit how many IP addresses can download each file. When a limit is reached, the customer sees a message explaining why instead of the file.
Is my digital content secure?
Each order gets its own download links, and you control access to them: cap downloads, limit IP addresses, restrict downloads to the billing country, or turn an order's links off. PDFs can be stamped with the buyer's email and order number to deter piracy. Which controls you get depends on your plan.
Does this work with Shopify Plus?
Yes. ABC works with every Shopify plan from Starter to Plus. We use native checkout and customer accounts: after installing the app, you add ABC's blocks to your Thank you and Order status pages, and the app's Setup Guide walks you through it.
What happens if a customer requests a refund?
Refund the order in Shopify as usual. Refunding or canceling an order in Shopify turns off its download links, so the customer's link opens a "download prohibited" page instead of the file. To cut off access without a refund, open the order in ABC and turn off all of its download links.
