How to send updated files to specific customers
Updated
To give a new version of a file to specific customers, attach it to their orders in ABC Digital Downloads, then send them an updated download email. The new file is added alongside the files they already have.
To update the file for everyone who bought it instead, use Replace on the file's page. See Replace a file and notify customers.
Step 1: Open the customer's order
- In ABC, go to Orders.
- Find the order and click it. You can search by customer name, customer email, order number, product name or file name.
Step 2: Attach the new file
- On the Products with connected files card, click Manually connect files.
- Choose Select files to pick a file that's already in ABC, or Upload files to upload one from your computer. The Upload files menu also has Upload from URL.
- If you chose Select files, tick the file (use Search for files to find it) and click Add.
The file appears on a new Manually Attached files card. To attach more files later, click Connect another file on that card.

💡 Tip: Put a version in the file name, such as
social-growth-playbook-v2.pdf, so customers can tell the new file from the old one.
Step 3: Send the updated download email
As soon as you attach a file, a New files connected banner appears at the top of the order: "New files have been manually connected to this order. Send an updated download email to notify the customer of the new files."
⚠️ Important: Send updated download email emails the customer straight away.
Click Send updated download email in the banner. The customer gets your New file(s) added to order email, with a subject such as "Your digital downloads for #1004 have been updated! 🎉". It lists all the order's files, the original ones and the new one, each with its size and a download link.
💡 Tip: Send the email right after you attach the file. The banner is gone once you reload the page.

💡 Tip: You can edit the New file(s) added to order email to explain what's changed. Editing emails is available on the Professional and Plus plans; see Customizing email templates.
Remove an attached file
⚠️ Important: Removing an attached file from an order can't be undone.
On the Manually Attached files card, click Remove next to the file and confirm.
