How to connect files to products
Updated
In ABC Digital Downloads, you can connect files from the product's side. It's the easiest way to see everything a product delivers, and to give each variant its own file, such as an M4A and a WAV version of the same track.
Step 1: Open the product
- In your Shopify admin, open ABC Digital Downloads and click Products.
- Find the product. The list shows every product in your store, with its Status and how many Connected Files it has ("-" means none). To search by product name, use the search box ("Searching all products").
- Click the product.

💡 Tip: Scan the Connected Files column for "-" to spot products that don't have any files connected yet.
Step 2: Add files
The product's page has a Connected Files card for each variant, named after the variant. A product without variants has a single Connected Files card.
On the card for the variant you want:
- Click Upload files to upload a file from your computer. ABC uploads it and connects it in one step.
- Or click Select files, tick files you've already uploaded, and click Add. Files already on that variant are listed, but you can't tick them.
- To add a file from a web address, open the menu next to Upload files and choose Upload from URL.
You can also drag a file from your computer and drop it anywhere on the card. ABC uploads it and connects it in one step.
The card lists each connected file with its Filename, Uploaded Date and Size. Files are connected as soon as you add them; there's no Save step. A variant can have several files, and the same file can be connected to several products.
💡 Tip: Connecting a file to a product doesn't add it to orders placed before. To give earlier customers the file, attach it to their orders with Manually connect files, then click Send updated download email. See How to send updated files to specific customers.

Customers get only the files connected to the variant they buy.
💡 Tip: To connect one file to many products at once, start from Files: tick the file and choose Connect to products. See Uploading and connecting files to products.
Remove a file from a product
Tick the files on the card, click Remove files, and confirm. The files stay in Files.
